LinkedIn has confirmed that passwords of its users have been compromised.
A large number of encrypted passwords for the site were previously posted to a Russian web forum.
Vicente Silveira, a director at the professional social-networking site, wrote in a blog post: "We can confirm that some of the passwords that were compromised correspond to LinkedIn accounts."
LinkedIn said that it has not detected any data breach from its side, and did not disclose the number of passwords that were compromised. Initial reports said six million passwords were posted to the forum.
The company says it has disabled the passwords to the compromised accounts, and will contact users with instructions on how to reset passwords. LinkedIn also said that emails to reset passwords will not contain links, and warned users to beware of phishing attempts.
